Cold sore remedies are in great need due to the epidemic of cold sores today. Over 89% of our population is infected with the herpes simplex virus. Over 60% of those will get cold sores each year. These people need cold sore remedies that truly work.
Commercial cold sore remedies you buy at the drug store are considered mostly comfort treatments. They reduce your pain and discomfort primarily with oils and a numbing chemical such as lidocaine. And that is good.
Here are some cold sore remedies that are time-tested and proven highly effective for quickly eliminating your sores. Give them a try. They will out-perform most store-bought remedies.
1. GARLIC OIL.
Garlic is a very powerful and easy cold sore remedy. Under a microscope, you can watch viruses flee from just the smell of it.
Garlic also is quite amazing because it can absorb right through your skin and hit the infection underneath. Put it on your feet and you will smell it on your breath in less than 30 minutes.
Fresh garlic, either cut or crushed, will give you the very best results.
You can also get garlic oil in gel-cap form at the store when fresh is not convenient. Just nip the gel-cap and squeeze out the oil directly on your cold sores.
Take garlic orally too as it will greatly speed the results of topical treatment. Plus, you will be more resistant to cold and flu virus too.
2. PEPPERMINT OIL.
Mint is also very strong medicine for healing cold sores. It seems to stop cold sores immediately and heal them in short order. Yes, it smells a lot better than garlic too.
The best way to obtain peppermint oil for safely applying directly to the sore is to buy peppermint gel-caps at the vitamin store. Just as you would with the garlic gel-caps, you prick them and squeeze the oil directly on the sore.
There is also available peppermint oil for aromatherapy use. This is extremely concentrated and can burn your skin. Get aromatherapy instructions and follow their directions for diluting it with olive oil.
You can also mix garlic and peppermint oil for an exceptional topical cold sore remedy.
3. TEA BAGS.
Applying heat to any sore will speed healing. This is the case with cold sores that have blossomed open too. It gives you a flood of extra oxygenated blood to the wound.
Your best way to do this is by applying heated tea bags. Common black tea works great. If you can find black tea with lemon balm or mint it will work much better and faster.
Caution. Never heat a tea bag directly in a microwave. Heat the water separately, then heat the bag with this boiling water. The microwave radiation ruins the special healing nutrients in tea.
4. LYSINE.
Lysine is one of the most effective and well-proven treatments you will find. Lysine is considered one of the most important cold sore remedies and should always be included in any regimen.
Lysine is a common protein found in dairy and fish. It effectively lowers the amount of arginine stored in your cells. Arginine is the protein fraction needed by the herpes virus to create new viruses.
By stopping the herpes virus from creating new virus, you can avoid - or quickly eliminate - any cold sores. Lysine really discourages the herpes replication process.
Folks find the best results if they start taking it at the first suspicion of an outbreak. They usually continue to take it until total healing has taken place. Common dose during this time is 3000 to 4000 milligrams spread out each day.
Lysine is quite safe. For example, a large serving of Flounder contains about 10,000 milligrams of lysine. Personally, I believe lysine capsules are the best choice. They are inexpensive, easy to find and very convenient for this purpose.
These are just a few of the most powerful cold sore remedies we know of today.
Be sure to try them. You will get awesome results and return to your social life quickly when you use these potent cold sore remedies.

Top-level comments on this article: (4 total)Hi Denny
I have been suffering cold sores since I graduated college 3 years ago. I get about one every other month or so it seems. Barely get over one before another raises its ugly head.
Any good cold sore remedies I should be using?
Please hurry, and thank you.
JamieHey Jamie
Wonderful to hear from you, Jamie. AND thank you so much for the 5 STARS! It really means a lot to me - that I may be helping people here.
College is when I was introduced to cold sores too.
Well, Jamie, one cold sore is too many, but it sounds like you are getting hammered good. A cold sore here and there can happen, but repeated cold sores is a sign that something is not quite right in your physical life. Treating cold sores is a burden but preventing them is so easy.
I just posted an article to my web site called "Repeated Cold Sores" which I really want you to read if you have a chance. The link to my site (3 day cold sore) is at the top under my name. It is really perfect for anyone who gets cold sores regularly.
Also, if you are so inclined, take a look at the cold sore treatment plan I offer on my site. It is the key to living cold sore free and it is so easy. You don't need a special oil or creme (which you have to buy over and over again), you need a complete plan.
In the meantime, Jamie, some good home cold sore remedies will help you get rid of your current cold sore problem.
Of course, I assume you will be taking some lysine supplements. In addition to that, however, refrain from eating grains, nuts and seeds (cereal, breads, etc) for at least a couple days. This will help the lysine work much better and faster.
Fresh crushed garlic mentioned in this article is a great remedy, but it can be a bit harsh for sensitive skin. A lot of people like mixing it with olive oil to buffer it a bit. Don't worry - a little goes a long way with garlic. Also, I strongly recommend that you use EXTRA VIRGIN olive oil. This is the best, by far. Olives have factors that are very useful against this virus.
The peppermint oil, coconut oil, tea tree oil or oregano oil can each or all be mixed with this remedy - they all work great together.
One additional thing, Jamie. Obviously your immunity could use a hand. If I were you, I would be taking a high quality vitamin regimen every day. Not the drug store stuff but a good vitamin store quality. Otherwise, save your money.
Have to run, Jamie, but be sure to read that article. Also, if you could, please bookmark it for your friends too.
Thank you so much, Jamie, for stopping by. Hope you have a great weekend. Stay in touch if you have any other questions.

Hi Denny
I hear on facebook you are the go to expert on cold sores. Several of my friends have bookmarked your web site 3 day cold sore cure so I visited it. I then bookmarked it too because it is awesome information and cold sore remedies.
I seem to get a lot of cold sores and it really cuts down on my social activities. I just got over one last week and now am getting one again.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. What cold sore remedies work best for stopping these outbreaks?
Thanks for your great info!!!
TerriHi Terri
Wonderful to hear from you, Terri. Thank you so much for the kind words. I am so glad that people are benefiting by my research.
Keep in mind, Terri, that topical cold sore remedies are only good for stopping and healing a current cold sore. To keep them from occuring in the first place, you need internal cold sore remedies. Also, internal remedies will help the topical remedies to work faster and better.
Often internal remedies are ignored because there are so many companies trying to sell you their salve or ointment. That is a shame because internal treatment is really the most important.
A good cold sore treatment plan includes both internal and external remedies that work together for both curing and preventing.
I offer a complete plan for sale on my web site but you can also create your own with a little time and effort. Everything you need to know to do this is on my 3 day cold sore web site (link at top under my name).
In your particular case, I have just posted a new article that should be exactly what you need to deal with those constant cold sores. It is called "Repeated Cold Sores" and is on the 3 day cold sore web site I just mentioned. It is the way you can stop cold sore attacks.
Please go there now and stop back and let me know what you think.
Take care Terri
Denny
Hi Again Denny
Just getting back to you on that article on your 3daycoldsore website called "Repeated Cold Sores" that you recommended above.
Very, very good Denny. Thank you a lot for steering me in that direction.
Also, wanted you to know I bought your cold sore treatment plan and have seen immediate healing. Can't believe I have suffered for so long when it was so simple to stop the attacks. Best money any cold sore victim can spend.
Thanks for my new social life without cold sores!!!
TerriHi Terri
Wonderful to hear from you again, Terri. Sorry I am so late getting back to you. This past week has been quite busy and I have not spent much time on the computer.
I am glad you tried the cold sore treatment plan I offer on my site. I do not push it too hard (I don't like salesmen too much) but it is absolutely the best solution for healing and preventing cold sores. And, it is so easy that it is nearly effortless. I make a little money on it which pays for the web site hosting and development. The more people I can help, the better.
As I have said many times, you can develop your own cold sore treatment plan to do the same thing. Its just that it does take time, money and effort. This plan is already done for you, as you have seen.
Take care, Terri, and thank you so much for the feedback. It is very encouraging and helps me know I am not wasting time and money to do this.
Denny
Dear Denny
Thank you so much for your articles. I have learned more in the past 15 minutes than the past 12 months trying to solve this cold sore dilemma. Thank you for the facts and not some sales hype.
I used to get cold sores and then haven't for probably 5 years. I thought that I had outgrown them but I just started getting them again last winter. What would cause this?
JamieHi Jamie
Wonderful to hear from you, Jamie. Thank you so much for your kind words and the five stars too.
About 10 years ago I wanted to research cold sores to help the many people I work with locally here. I was absolutely appalled at the amount of bad information being presented on many web sites about this very troublesome affliction. As I talked with my friends at Mayo, and kept researching cold sores, I finally decided to share this information with anyone who wants it - thus I put up a web site (3daycoldsorecure - link at top under my name) that is free for anyone to use. (Please understand that I do not actually work for mayo myself).
At any rate, it isn't the prettiest site in the world but the information is accurate and used by thousands of folks each month. I do sell a cold sore treatment plan there which is the best I have seen. It basically pays for the web site hosting. I invite anybody to visit and bookmark the site for yourself and your friends. It is there to help you.
Well, Jamie, you never really get rid of the cold sore virus. It may stay dormant for a month, a year or a lifetime. Everybody is different and every situation unique. You really don't outgrow it as such. For example - shingles. Shingles is caused by a similar herpes virus and commonly attacks elderly folks, over 65. Most of these folks caught this virus in their youth but it stays dormant for many years.
I feel the main reason for this phenomenon is that, as we age, our body tends toward a more acid state (lower pH balance) which encourages many diseases and pathogens. Because of our diet habits in developed countries, even very young people are having acid problems.
And, Jamie, I would guess that what has changed in your life is more stress or possibly a diet change - both of which will drop your pH toward the acid side of normal. This alone can bring on cold sores more frequently.
If you want to look into this further, I just published an article on the web site mentioned above called "Repeated Cold Sores" which discusses this pH connection. Please read it as it will not only help save you from cold sores but many other health problems, I believe.
Also, you can check out the article "8 Critical Cold Sore Stages" here on this site. There are a ton of comments and information you can use for treating cold sores effectively and for free.
Take care, Jamie. Thank you so much for stopping by. Please let me know any further questions.
