Is getting rid of cold sores a major desire for you? If so, by the time you are done reading this article, you will know exactly how to get rid of cold sores in your life.
If getting rid of cold sores for you means healing a current cold sore fast, or preventing cold sores before they can occur, this article will help. The key to success is deactivating the herpes virus. Keeping it in this dormant stage will prevent future cold sores.
Getting rid of cold sores is really an easy three-step process. 1. Deactivate and wash away as much virus as possible. 2. Make the cold sore area uncomfortable for the virus. 3. Heal the cold sore damage as quickly as possible.
Alcohol is the universal germ killer. It can sting but is ideal for cleansing away and deactivating cold sore virus. If you use bottled alcohol, apply with a cotton ball. Pre-packaged alcohol swabs are available and most convenient. One down side - alcohol has to be applied frequently. A cold sore treatment that will stop viruses and lasts longer between applications, are oils such as oregano or garlic oil. Both work great, feel good and last a long time. Oregano smells better in public. Garlic oil is aggressive, so mix with olive oil so as not to burn sensitive skin.
Making the area unfriendly to the cold sore virus is as simple as applying ice or any cold object. The herpes virus hates cold and will retreat from it. Do not use after the sore blisters. This begins the healing period and ice will slow it down. Use warm, wet tea bags from now on.
Finally, applying some fresh (from a plant leaf) Aloe Vera gel on the sore will speed healing dramatically. Mix with a little baking soda for an effective cold sore salve.
Getting rid of cold sores for good will take an on-going focus on your part. Here are a couple of ways other cold sore sufferers have used to prevent cold sores from taking place.
Truth be told, many folks get rid of cold sores permanently merely by adding a good vitamin-mineral supplement to their daily diet. First, this helps boost your immune system giving you greater resistance to viral type illnesses. Second, minerals such as calcium, magnesium and zinc help keep your body more alkaline. This is especially important under stress conditions that normally turn the body acid. The cold sore virus can't get any traction in an alkaline environment. Zinc is also the healing mineral and it really works in very small dosages.
If you have had more than one cold sore event in your life, you are probably aware of these early symptoms. Just before the cold sore appears, the target area will start to feel uncomfortable - itching, burning, dryness. This may last two hours to two days. You can stop the cold sore in its tracks. Just apply the right cold sore treatment during this time. The simplest and most convenient is to apply ice quickly and often. You will either delay the cold sore or send the herpes virus back into hibernation.
There are a variety of cold sore remedies available at your local stores. For the most part, these are comfort remedies. They have not been proven to shorten the cold sore event by more than a few days. But, comfort is important too. Look for products with a numbing agent (benzocaine or lidocaine, to name a couple) for reducing pain, and an anti-bacterial to prevent a secondary bacterial infection.
Getting rid of cold sores can be as simple as taking a daily vitamin supplement. Or it may take more effort by following an alkaline enhancing diet and trying different topical treatments.
You are different. You are unique. Finding the correct cold sore remedy that will work best for you may take a little trial and error on your part. But if you are determined, and start applying the suggestions mentioned here, you may soon find yourself permanently getting rid of cold sores.

Thank you very much. I get cold sores all the time due to stress and before I get a cold. I will try to get more zinc in my dietHi Anon
Yes, get more zinc. Also, it is wise to take a multi-mineral as the different minerals will work together to enhance the value of the zinc and each other.
Take care

Hey Denny
I have to tell you - your articles have helped me greatly with my cold sores - AND MY SEX LIFE.
I checked out your website and tried the cold sore treatment plan you recommended there. Best money I EVER spent.
Thank you sooooooo much Denny
LaceyHi Lacey
Thank you so much, Lacey, for the 5 star salute and for your success story.
Yes, a good cold sore treatment plan is the answer to eliminating cold sores from your life. So many good folks are sold a cream or ointment that they are told is the total answer to their cold sores - and then they are disappointed when they don't work as expected.
Fact is - topical remedies are great and the most common cold sore remedy. It is a surface sore that you can easily get at. However, always keep in mind that cold sores start inside the body and finally appear on the outside surface of your skin. One topical remedy is like trying to drive your car with only one tire. You need a complete cold sore treatment plan - not just one "magic" salve.
A complete plan contains both internal and external treatments. When you get into it, you find that the internal remedies are actually more effective than the topical ones.
At any rate, I am glad you gave it a try. It is not my treatment plan. That is, I did not write it. I saw it being offered one day, and it impressed me so that I made it available on my web site. Yes, I make a small amount of money when someone buys it but that is not the important thing. What is important is that you can find freedom from cold sores.
Sorry for being so long winded here. I really feel strongly about these things.
So, thank you for your kind words and success story, Thanks, also for the 5 stars. It really means a lot.
If I can help you in any way, please never hesitate to ask for help in these comments.
Take care and have a great weekend.

Omg i just got a cold sore i started wit carmex but it didnt wrk do u think ice will work byHey Diamond
Wonderful to hear from you, Diamond.
Yes, Diamond, ice is a great remedy for cold sores but only up until it actually blisters. After the blister forms, you are in the healing stage and ice will slow down healing. Better to use warm compresses at this time. The warmth will bring additional blood and oxygen to the site, greatly speeding up healing.
Many people have great luck using warm wet tea bags. Any tea will do, but the herbal teas with peppermint or lemon balm work very well indeed. Heat up the bags on the stove (not in microwave) using hot water. Don't burn yourself - that will just complicate the issue. 10 minute sessions every hour or two are very helpful.
If you have some honey, Diamond, that is an excellent cold sore remedy. A couple other things we have good luck with is garlic oil (mix with olive oil to buffer it), Tea Tree oil and peppermint oil. If you have some of that baking soda and peroxide toothpaste, that works well overnight. Or you can mix up your own salve of peroxide and baking soda too.
Cleanse the site with peroxide, alcohol, grape wine, vodka or brandy. Use throwaway tissues or cotton balls.
Take care, Diamond, and thank you so much for stopping by. If you are interested and have the time, check out my website (link under my name at top). It has tons of additional free info waiting for you.
Thanks

I have had a cold sore for about a week now. I tried some prescription salve and it did not help one bit. I also got some cs salve at the drug store but it has not made it any better, although it does not hurt so much when I put it on. What can I do?
Hi Debbie
Really great to hear from you, Debbie. Sorry about the cold sore attack. Hope I can help.
I am hearing more and more that the prescription antivirus salve (acyclovir) does not seem to be working very well anymore. I suspect that the virus is becoming more resistant to it. When penicillin was first discovered, it worked great. Then the bacteria became resistant and new antibiotics needed to be created. Unfortunately, scientists can barely keep up with the mutating virus, fungus and bacteria. I guess we humans are not so smart as we would like to think because natural remedies for many diseases work as well today as they did 2000 years ago.
The cold sore salve you got at the drug store probably contains a numbing agent, such as lidocaine or benzocaine. Nothing wrong with that - cold sores are miserable and anything we can do to relieve the discomfort and pain is welcome.
Generally speaking, though, over-the-counter treatments are considered comfort treatments, no matter what they claim to be. Seldom do they speed up getting rid of cold sores to any measurable degree.
So Debbie, what to do? If I had a cold sore, this is what I would do.
I would be taking about 3000 milligrams of lysine per day from the first warning sign until the final healing. I would use the 500 milligram capsules and spread them throughout the day, each day.
Arginine is the protein that feeds a cold sore. Without it, the herpes virus cannot create a sore. Lysine helps to neutralize the arginine and keep it from being available to the virus.
I would also be sucking on some zinc lozenges like those used for head colds. Zinc is a very good antivirus and healing mineral. It works great for getting rid of head colds, just like they say. It also is awesome for getting rid of cold sores fast! This form of zinc absorbs fast, right through the tissues in your mouth to your bloodstream. It would be very helpful to put some of this zinc right on the sore too.
Garlic is also a fantastic antiviral. Garlic oil can be very aggressive for sensitive skin. I like to mix some crushed garlic with extra virgin olive oil as a buffer and mix in a little baking soda to help alkalize the area. I would put this homemade salve on as often as possible.
Give these things a try right now if you have time. They work safely and fast. There is a ton more free info at my 3daycoldsore website linked at top under my name that would help you. Don't worry, it is not sales hype, just facts and tips.
Take care, Debbie and thank you so much for the 5 stars. Hope you have a great week. Thank you for stopping by. Please let us know how it goes.
Thanks
Denny
